Crown & Bridges

Dental crowns are applied across the surface of a tooth to help protect a severely decayed or damaged area, thus preventing further damage. Also known as dental caps, dental crowns restore the full functionality of your tooth. If you have teeth missing and want to replace them, you may consider a dental bridge. Dental bridges replace the missing tooth by using the surrounding teeth as anchors to hold it in place.

What are crowns?

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped covering applied over a tooth to cover the surface and restore the tooth to its normal shape and size. A crown can also be placed on top of an implant to provide a new tooth surface.

Crowns are used to:

  1. Restore a tooth that has been severely damaged by decay or trauma
  2. Protect a weak tooth from breaking
  3. Cover a dental implant
  4. Support a tooth with a large filling when most of the tooth has been eroded
  5. Cosmetically enhance the appearance of a discoloured or misshapen tooth

What are bridges?

Dental bridges are false teeth used to fill the gap created by one or more missing teeth. The false tooth, called a pontic, is attached to dental crowns placed on the fixed teeth on either side of the space. This type of restoration is used when healthy teeth remain on both sides of the space.

Bridges are used to:

  1. Fill the gap created by one or more missing teeth
  2. Restore chewing function
  3. Restore your smile
  4. Maintain the shape of your face
