Dealing With Dental Emergencies

With flexible appointment availability, we’re here when the unexpected happens. We offer various treatments to help reduce pain and discomfort and have extensive experience dealing with trauma, abscess, and swelling.

Lost or Broken Fillings

A lost or broken filling is considered an emergency if you are experiencing severe pain or if the filling is large and visible. If the lost filling is not causing any discomfort, it can wait until regular dental hours.

A lost or broken filling is repaired by placing a new filling in the tooth. The new filling will be crafted from the same material as the old one, and it will be matched to the colour of your natural teeth.

Extreme Tooth Pain

If you are experiencing extreme tooth pain, it is best to see one of SmileHub’s dentists as soon as possible. The sooner the problem is diagnosed and treated, the better.

There are many possible causes of extreme tooth pain, such as an infection, a cavity, or a cracked tooth. One of our dental team will be able to identify the cause of the pain and suggest the best course of treatment.

We deal with emergencies involving extreme tooth pain by first diagnosing the cause of the pain. Once the cause is determined, we can then recommend the best course of treatment.

Treatment for extreme tooth pain may involve antibiotics, a root canal, or a dental extraction.

Loose or Broken Dental Crowns

A loose or broken dental crown is an emergency if the tooth is in pain or if the crown is large and visible. If the loose or broken crown is not causing any discomfort, it can wait until regular dental hours.

We fix loose or broken dental crowns by first removing the old crown. The tooth will then be cleaned, and a new crown will be placed on the tooth.

The new crown will be made of the same material as the old one, and it will be matched to the colour of your natural teeth.

Knocked-Out Tooth

A knocked-out tooth is an emergency if the tooth is still alive (has narrow pink tissue attached to it).

If you have a knocked-out tooth, it is important to seek dental care as soon as possible. The sooner the tooth is replanted, the better the chances are for it to survive.

To replant a knocked-out tooth, hold the tooth by the crown (the wide part) and gently insert it back into the socket. If the tooth does not stay in the socket, place it in a cup of milk. Then, seek dental care immediately.

If a knocked-out tooth is not replanted, the root will die, and the tooth will be lost forever.

Uncontrollable Bleeding

Uncontrollable bleeding of the mouth or gums is an emergency if it does not stop within a few minutes of consistently applying pressure to the area with a clean cloth.

If you have uncontrolled bleeding of the mouth or gums, you should see one of our dentists as soon as possible.

During your emergency dental care appointment, we will determine the cause of the bleeding and recommend the best course of treatment. Treatment for uncontrolled bleeding may involve cleaning the wound, suturing the wound, or prescribing medication.
